'M W' stands for Medium Waves, that is, the medium of radio waves. It is a familiar concept, both to the composer and to fellow Sicilians, to tune into Arab channels. The piece thus serves as a dedication to the music from the Arabic world that has played a major inspirational role in Sollima's artistic development. He uses minimalist structures that develop lively internal articulations and intervals borrowed from Arabic monodic chant.
