Pippo Molino was born in Milan; after attending a classical lyceum and university, he studied at the Conservatorio di Milano with Renato Fait and Franco Donatoni, receiving his diplomas in Composition and Choral Music. He emerged in the ‘80’s as one of the most significant and original composers on the Italian scene. His works have received prizes in various competitions and been performed in the most important concert halls. His music has been broadcast on Europe, Japan and U.S.A. radios. His works include, among others: Litanie for Orchestra (1979), Il canto ritrovato for Orchestra (1980), Suite from "Il cavalier selvatico" for Soprano, Oboe and Violoncello (1981-82), Cantabile for Flute and Piano (1983), Coro primo for 3 voices and 10 instruments (from Eliot)(1985), Per la festa della Dedicazione for Organ (1986), Itinerario 1 for Piano (1989), Recitativo con aria for Baritone and Orchestra (1990), La pretesa umana, Musical Drama in one Act for Reciting, Baritone and 8 Instruments (from Solovíev)(1991), Itinerari for String Orchestra (1994), Esodo 33 for Mezzo-soprano and guitar (1995), Frammento D (1993) and Frammento C (1996) for guitar, Angelus for Soprano, Mezzo-soprano and String Orchestra (1997, Concerto per flauto e archi (2002), Che fai tu, luna in ciel? for Narrator and Orchestra (2003). He does radio programmes on musicology for the RAI and is the author of various essays and articles on music. His compositions are published by Sonzogno, Curci, BMG, Carisch, Edipan, Rugginenti and recorded on the Rugginenti, RCA and Edipan labels.
In 2000 he published with Edizioni Curci the “Manuale di Armonia tonale”. In the same year he established in Milan “Arcipelago Musica”, an important center of musical events like the first digital library of music specialized in the last century’s music.
Since 2002 he is the artistic director of the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo.
He teaches Composition at the Conservatorio di Milano.
