Beside classical studies he began also musical studies from an early age and obtained diplomas in Composition, Piano, Orchestral and Choral Direction and Vocal Polifonia at the Consevatoires of Milan and Parma.
At 23 he wrote the comic chamber opera L’Amante Cubista, which became a tremendous success and was given 200 performances Throughout Europe and America. This work was followed by the comic opera Week-end, a dramatic opera Requiem for Elisa, two more comic operas Agenzia matrimoniale and Madame Landru, a tragic one in three acts Una donna uccisa con dolcezza, a children’s work La Teresina and the ballets Enea, A Happy Hippy, La figlia di Iorio (based on the drama by Gabriele D’Annunzio), Con amores and I promessi sposi (based on the novel by Alessandro Manzoni).
All these works were performed, to great public and critical acclaim, in Italy (in its more important theatres such as La Scala of Milan, La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Comunale in Genoa, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, the Sferisterio Arena in Macerata, etc.) and in several European countries, in U.S.A., Canada and South America.
In 1988 the dramatic opera in tree acts Eureka Stockade commissioned to him for the celebrations of the Second Centenary of Australia foundation was performed in Perth (Western Australia).
Roberto Hazon has also composed a variety of symphonic music, choral compositions, various instrumental ensembles and solos.
Some of his compositions, including operas, have been recorded.
Roberto Hazon is mentioned in all histories of music, encyclopedias and dictionaries of italian music.
