Bio

Francesco d'Avalos was born in Naples in 1930.

He studied music from the age of 12, composition with Renato Parodi and piano with Vincenzo Vitale.

He studied philosophy at the University of Naples.

His professional career began as a composer after obtaining, with full marks, a diploma in composition at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples.

He attended courses in orchestra' conducting at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, with Paul van Kempen, Sergiu Celibidache and Franco Ferrara. 

He made his debut as a composer with the performance of his First Symphony in Hamburg at the Norddeutscher Rundfunk in 1957 and as conductor at the Rai in Rome in 1964.

Since 1972 he has taught fugue and composition at the Bari Conservatory and since 1979 at the Conservatory of San Pietro at Majella in Naples, where for a period he also taught conducting.

Since the age of 12 he has devoted himself above all to composition. He considers the suite "Psyche" written in 1947 as his first true composition. He has composed many works for orchestra and two plays.
