CAPISTER Renato Loris

(Bergamo,1966)

Bio

Renato Loris Capister was born in Romano di Lombardia, Bergamo (Italy), in 1966. He started the study of music at the age of five, devoting himself to the piano. He than studied harp at the Milan Conservatory “G.Verdi” from the age of 11 and later, in the same musical institution,  he began his studies of Composition with Maestro Umberto Rotondi. He graduated in Composition 1992.

In the summer of 1995 he received his advanced degree in Composition at the National Academy of Music “S. Cecilia” in Rome with Maestro Franco Donatoni.

Apprentice of  Conductor Giampiero Taverna, he graduated in Conducting in 1996 at the Conservatory of music in Milan, where he was also a trainee.

He received a commendation (first prize not awarded) at the “Valentino Bucchi” International Composition Competition with the score for piano, percussion and three orchestral groups “Pagine di un diario d’estate”.  He was commended at the Master Classes from “Music Art Foundation” in Perugia (Italy) for the composition “Trio” , for flute, violin and clarinet, composed during his Master’s degree, which will be recorded on CD on Edi Pan (Rome).

He was awarded the first prize in the International Composition Competition “Karl Czerny” in 1992 with “Es”, quintet for flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano.

He participated in the drafting and implementation of the “ Messa Ambrosiana”, for five organs and amplified harp, composed specifically for Duomo of Milan, premiered in October 1992, conducted by Loris Capister, composed by Umberto Rotondi and five young composers.

At the first National Composition Competition “City of Udine chamber Operas”, his work “Il Cavaliere dei Ritmi”, a one act music fable, was selected and published by “Sonzogno” (Milan), staged the world premiere in March 1995 in Palamostre in Udine with replicas in Pordenone and Cividale del Friuli (Italy), conducted by Andrea Pestalozza.

In December 1995 during the sixth edition of the International Festival of Contemporary Music at the “Art Nouveau Building” in Milan, the world premiere of  his piece “Eolis”, for six instruments and percussion  was performed.

Elegia per un Angelo” for choir and orchestra won the Five composers for the Jubilee, International Composition Competition  organized by “I Pomeriggi Musicali” Foundation, Milan. The score was performed as world premiere on december, the 3rd, 2000 in Milan by “I Pomeriggi Musicali” Symphonic Orchestra and “Nuova Polifonica Ambrosiana” choir, conducted by Pietro Mianiti.

Recently his "Missa 1a" for organ, was performed at "St. Mary Cathedral" in S. Francisco (USA).

In March 1996 he attended a Master Conducting with Walter Proost and the “San Remo Symphonic Orchestra” in San Remo (Italy).

In 1999 and 2001 he participated at  Masterclasses for young conductors of Maestro Aldo Ceccato  and “I Pomeriggi Musicali” Symphonic Orchestra in Milan.

Since 1997 he has been conducting several orchestras including the “European Philharmonic Orchestra”, “Il Setticlavio” Orchestra, “2 Lakes” Orchestra (performing  in Italy and Switzerland),  “Palermo Conservatory  Philharmonic Orchestra”  and  “I Pomeriggi Musicali” Symphonic Orchestra, getting quite good critics and audience.

From 2002 to 2007, was resident conductor of the “Verbano Youth Orchestra”.

Since 2002 he has been collaborating with Maestro Aldo Ceccato with whom he recently released "Beethoven 2000- modernizations of the nine symphonies" - Pendragon editions. Currently they are working on the update of all symphonic works of Beethoven.

Since September 1993 he has been Choirmaster of the “Amadeus” polyphonic choir, with whom he has performed in Italy, France and Switzerland.

From 2000 to 2004 he was Choirmaster of the “New Choir of the Polytechnic” of Milan, the prestigious Technical Italian University.

Since 2001 he has been  promoting and implementing educational projects for children of primary school, for sensitization, dissemination and education to musical culture.

In 2009 he held a seminar at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of University of  Palermo (Italy) on the topic "Relations between architecture and music", titled: "Architecture in ancient musical forms and in contemporary music micro structures forms."

Professor of Composition at the Conservatory "V. Bellini" of Palermo (Italy), is an active composer and performs regular concerts as Conductor and Choirmaster.
