Bio

Riccardo Pes was born in 1987 in Spilimbergo, Pordenone. He graduated with honors from the Royal College of Music in London, under the guidance of Prof. Melissa Phelps, where he received the Artist Diploma in Performance. He won the Soiree d'Or Award scholarship, the Pauline Hartley Award and the Kathleen Trust Award. Previously he studied and graduated from the "B.Marcello" Conservatory of Music in Venice; he attended the High Education courses held by Maestro Giovanni Sollima at the "Santa Cecilia" National Academy of Rome. He graduated with top marks and congratulations from the jury. He has participated in international masterclasses with the Maestri Franz Bartolomey, Frans Helmerson, Ludwig Quandt, Michael Sanderling, Johannes Goritzki, Enrico Dindo.

 

 

As a soloist he played with the "Solisti Veneti" conducted by Claudio Scimone, performing the Concerto in A major by Giuseppe Tartini in Padua, and with the Ensemble Serenissima performing the Concerto in B flat major by Antonio Vivaldi at the "Zancanaro Theater" ”Of Sacile. He performed music for Cello Solo from Bach to Morricone at the "AHA! Festival "of the University of Gothenburg," Terre di Maremma Festival "and" High Notes Festival "of Lucca.

 

 

As a chamber musician he has worked with important musicians such as Mario Brunello (Antiruggine, I suoni delle Dolomiti), Giovanni Sollima (Drum & Cello, 100 Cellos of the Teatro Valle in Rome and Triennale in Milan) and the famous violinist and conductor Thomas Zehetmair in octet formation string, playing the role of first cello. He regularly plays in duo with pianist Matteo Andri.

 

 

As a collaborating cellist, he has also worked with the scientist Margherita Hack, the writer Alessandro Marzo Magno, the photographers Giuliano and Gianni Borghesan as well as actors and contemporary circus artists. Riccardo played during the commemorations for the 150th anniversary of Italy (broadcast on Mogliano TV) and collaborated with the electronic and award-winning artist at European level, Jens Thomsen (SUNS Festival).

 

 

Riccardo Pes studied composition and counterpoint with Prof. Mario Pagotto and Battista Pradal and recently published his first solo album entitled "Cellina Work" (Irene Music Label). He has also recorded for the labels Velut Luna, Concerto (Milan), Irene (Spilimbergo) and for the famous musical magazine Amadeus.

 

 

Pes has recently won the selections for the "RCM Gateway Scheme", a program to promote young talented musicians with concerts in London and England. He won the 1st prize ("Concerto Competition" category) and the 2nd prize ("Recital" category) at the Richmond Festival Competition; 2nd prize both at the Hatfield and District Festival Competition and at the Piove di Sacco competition. He was awarded the title of "Man of Peace" after his performance at the Tibet Pavilion at the Venice Biennale last summer, also receiving an honorary passport for Tibet.

 

 

He plays a cello by the violin maker Edgar Russ, Cremona 2014.
