Bio

Born in Rome in 1954, after classical studies he graduated in composition at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia. He completed his theological studies at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana and later obtained a license in Sacred Scripture at the Pontificio Istituto Biblico.

 

Ordained a priest in 1982, he carried out his ministry in the Diocese of Rome. He is currently Consultor of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization and Rector of the Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere.

 

He holds courses at the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce and the Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra.

 

He is also an Academic Virtuoso Ordinary of the Pontificia Insigne Accademia di Belle Artie Letteratura of the Virtuosi at the Pantheon, of which he is spiritual assistant.

 

Author of numerous liturgical chants, known and appreciated in Italy and abroad, in 1984 he founded - and since then conducts - the Coro della Diocesi di Roma, with which he animates the most important diocesan liturgies, some of which presided over by the Holy Father.

 

Nel 1991 ha avuto inizio la sua collaborazione al progetto internazionale della Rai "Bibbia" sia come consulente biblista che autore delle musiche dei film prodotti. Oltre al “Progetto Bibbia”, negli anni ha composto le colonne sonore di molti film a tema storico e religioso.

 

In 1991 he began his collaboration on the international Rai project "Bible" both as a biblical consultant and author of the music for the films produced. In addition to the "Bible Project", over the years he has composed the soundtracks of many historical and religious films.

 

His musical production includes over thirty sacred oratories inspired by biblical characters or the life of great saints. Alongside these, the following are worth mentioning: "Cantico dei Cantici" written in 2009 and displayed at the "Festival Anima Mundi" in Pisa, "Passio Caeciliae" composed in 2011 and performed in Rome and New York on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, "Paradiso Paradiso" in 2013, for the 56th "Festival dei Due Mondi" in Spoleto with the participation of Giorgio Albertazzi, and "Fino al confine del Terra", inspired by the story of the shipwreck of St. Paul in Malta and performed there in February 2017 on the centenary of the Apostle's martyrdom.

 

In 2007 he composed the play "La Divina Commedia", the first musical transposition of the eponymous Dante masterpiece. In the 2009-2010 season his second work for the theater was staged: "Il miracolo di Marcellino", inspired by the novel by José Maria Sanchez Silva "Marcellino Pane e Vino". He is also the author of the music for "In Hoc Signo", represented in Belgrade in 2013 on the occasion of the millennium of the Edict of Milan and the Opera-Oratorio "Passio Christi" represented in 2018 in Malaga.

 

He was the promoter and coordinator of the first conference of Italian choirs, held in Rome in September 2014, and of the choral Jubilee in October 2016, which saw the participation of over 8.000 singers from all over the world. Since 2015 he has been the artistic director of the “Concerto con i Poveri e per i Poveri” held in the Aula Paolo VI.

 

For years he has been carrying out his experience as a priest, musician and teacher in many Italian and foreign Dioceses.
