After studying the violin privately, Porrino obtained a diploma in Composition at the Academy of Santa Cecilia, Rome, in 1932, subsequently making post-diploma studies with Ottorino Respighi.
The Sonzogno catalogue includes his first and last operas, Gli Orazi (1941, Teatro alla Scala, conducted by Antonio Guarnieri, with Tancredi Pasero and Iva Pacetti in the leading roles) and I Shardana (1959, Teatro di San Carlo, Naples), and the oratorio Il processo di Cristo (1948-49).
